Barbu Văcărescu is the name of a boulevard and of the office district around it, in the north of Bucharest. The boulevard starts at Șoseaua Ștefan cel Mare, crosses Șoseaua Pipera-Tunari and leads toward Băneasa Airport. According to the press of 2011, its intersections with Lacul Tei and with Strada Fabrica de Glucoză are located along it.
How the office district took shape
The Floreasca–Barbu Văcărescu area began to take shape as a business center before the financial crisis, when developers bought land for offices, according to a Wall-Street.ro article from July 2012. An article in Ziarul Financiar, dated June 12, 2011, describes the boulevard as a financial center in the making, with a growing number of bank headquarters, and compares it with the role the Lipscani area played at the beginning of the last century.
The buildings mentioned in the press of those years are Euro Tower, at the intersection with Lacul Tei, Lakeview, at the intersection with Strada Fabrica de Glucoză, and Nusco Tower, close to Aurel Vlaicu metro station. The 2012 article also mentions Floreasca Business Park and Floreasca Tower, and Sky Tower, with 37 floors, was then under construction. These lists date from the time of the articles and do not describe the situation in October 2026.
The surrounding streets
In 2011, Banca Italo-Română, Bancpost and Garanti had their headquarters on nearby Strada Dimitrie Pompeiu. The Bucharest City Hall launched a tender for modernizing the Dimitrie Pompeiu area, with widening the boulevard to two lanes in each direction, extending the tram infrastructure with a link toward Barbu Văcărescu, and a new road between Șoseaua Pipera, Dimitrie Pompeiu and the Fabrica de Glucoză area. The article we read has no clear date, and the status of the works has not been checked.
