Where it is

Bulevardul Dimitrie Pompeiu (Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard) is in the Pipera area, in the north of the capital. Economedia writes about the project as one in the Sector 2 area.

The widening project, announced in 2026

Economedia wrote on June 22, 2026 that the Bucharest City Hall put the boulevard’s extension out to tender: widening to two lanes in each direction, extending the tram infrastructure with a link to Bulevardul Barbu Văcărescu, a new road between Șoseaua Pipera, Bulevardul Dimitrie Pompeiu and Fabrica de Glucoză, a Park&Ride lot in the area of the current tram turnaround loop, and a cable-stayed pedestrian footbridge over the roads. Another Economedia article, from July 8, 2026, describes the same project and adds a road overpass across the railway at the intersection with Strada Petricani, to reduce the time lost at the CFR railway barrier. According to this second article, tram lines 16 and 36 would be connected to line 5, on Barbu Văcărescu.

The cost

According to the two articles, the contract is estimated at about 256 million lei and covers design, technical assistance and execution. In the first phase, the Sector 2 City Hall contributes 20 million lei for documentation, infrastructure and mobility facilities, the July article writes.

What is unclear

The articles do not give the same execution period: one speaks of 36 months from the start order, the other of two years. We found no source saying that the works have begun, so the current status is unconfirmed. An Economedia article from October 31, 2022 wrote that the General Council approved a feasibility study for a new tram line between Pantelimon and Pipera, of about 12 km, at that time at the study stage.
